How long have you worked for Oakwood?
I have been working at Oakwood since the end of 2018, so about 2 and a half years.

What is your equestrian background?
I have been riding on and off for about 13 years and during high school I completed a Cert. II in Equine Studies through Box Hill Tafe. After school, I went on to complete a Diploma of Horses Breeding with Melbourne Polytechnic, where I learnt about pasture management, reproduction and even got to do some work placement on large thoroughbred studs such as Woodside Park and Swettenham. Then I became a part of the Oakwood team!

What does a typical day look like for you at Oakwood Riding School?
I am kept busy with everyday tasks such as the feed run, rugging/unrugging, checking school horse’s health and wellbeing, cleaning paddocks and stables, preparing horses for lessons, and running around making sure I get everything done!

What about your horses?
Unfortunately I currently don’t own a horse, but I did have the pleasure of leasing a schoolie, Nigel, which is the next best thing.

What do you do outside of your work at Oakwood?
I keep myself pretty busy studying for a Bachelor of Social Science, majoring in criminology. I also have a cheeky miniature schnauzer puppy, Magnus, who seems to have endless amounts of energy!

What do you like most about Oakwood?
Oakwood has exceptional school horses, facilities, staff and clients! Very proud to be a part of an organisation that continues to grow and promote such a friendly and supportive environment for all.

How long have you worked for Oakwood?

I have been working at Oakwood for over a year now. I first started in January 2019.

What does a typical day look like for you at Oakwood Riding School?

I generally work weekend shifts, so I get to feed and rug all the agistee’s horses. I also clean out paddocks, make up feeds for the next shift and clean up around the stable area. Occasionally I will work the Saturday shift where I catch, feed and tack up the school horses for lessons.

What about your horses?

At home, we have 7 horses who I feed and rug twice daily. I have two of my own ridden horses, an OTTB gelding and a WBxTB mare. I predominately event, but occasionally do some straight SJing. I also have a foal which was born at the start of this year, purpose bred for eventing. I have previously competed at CCI-L 2*J at Melbourne Three Day and hope to be back at that level soon.

What do you do outside of your work at Oakwood?

Currently I am completing Year 12 at Haileybury College. After school, I plan on going to Uni, I’m just not sure on what I want to study. I also ride my own horses everyday, before or after school.

What do you like most about Oakwood?

At Oakwood, I really enjoy working with the horses, of course, but the team at Oakwood have always been so encouraging and friendly towards me, so I enjoy working with them all. Additionally, I love helping out our clients who come in for lessons and seeing how much fun they have whilst riding our schoolies.

What does a typical day look like for you at Oakwood
Riding School?

A typical day for me is cleaning out paddocks or out on the
gator feeding horses their feed and hay and changing rugs if
need be, bringing in and tacking up school horses.

What about your horses?

I have a 3 1/2 year old Standardbred at home named Chubby that is my pride and joy. I got him straight off the racetrack as a 2yr old from his trainer who I was working for at the time, who gave Chubby to me because we just clicked.

What do you do outside of your work at Oakwood?

I'm a licenced Harness Racing Trial Driver and I'm also studying to become a Harness Racing Trainer up at Warragul. It's a whole lot of fun - there's nothing quite like being in the sulky.

I also help my Trainer with teaching new people in the harness industry, like which piece of gear is used for what, how we put on specific pieces of gear, and sometimes pairing up with newer drivers on the track and helping refine their driving. I like getting the babies and the difficult horses to drive now because I like a challenge.

What do you like most about Oakwood?

I like the fact that everyone is welcoming and happy to share their knowledge with you. Everyone is very easy to work with and talk to. They really care about their students and about all the horses on the property as well.
